A Beautiful Job!

Meticulous work

Fantastic transformation

Matt was brilliant throughout the whole process by bringing his passion, experience and creativity to our garden. We are really pleased with what Matt achieved in such a small space but looks much bigger due to clever decking, patio and planting scheme that Matt designed. Amazing transformation

25/09/2020 		Matt did an incredible job transforming our standard London terrace back garden into an amazing living space we use with family and friends, day and evening. he built amazing contemporary bespoke fencing, storage and raised borders. his attention to detail and planting knowledge is incredible. everyone who sees it is in awe. he first listened to all our needs as a family and communicated throughout the work, .. children and dog love Matt! . he is a total professional. with incredible attention to the little details that make a difference and most importantly clearly gets as much joy out of doing the best job possible as we do now out of living in it. we would be more than happy to share photos and hope you have as much pleasure with your new garden .

Attention to Detail

Brilliant job!

09/09/2019 		Matt did yet another great job for us. He replaced the decking he installed some five years ago.  This time, instead of wood, we opted for composite decking planks.  The wood effect is realistic and the the decking is now largely maintenance free and non-slip.
Matt did his usual marvellous job.  He is a perfectionist. So maybe not the quickest but, in our experience, the best. 

As ever, he is polite, informative and friendly. And, above all else, professional.

03/08/2019 		Our garden has been completely transformed by Matthew . The challenges included; broken decking and fencing, completely overgrown shrubs and sunken scrubby grass . He has laid a beautifully even patio, raised the level of the lawn, replaced all the fencing, planted beautifully complimentary plants and laid a winding lawn that is brick edged .  The final flourish has been well placed lighting that looks magical at nightfall. Its fair to say that the end product is unrecognisable from where we started . Matthew is reliable, tidy  and creative his attention to detail and getting the building aspects absolutely right is really impressive and reassuring  . Very highly recommended .

Fantastic service always!

14/07/2019 		I first contacted Matt about redesigning my back garden.  He was professional from the start, was helpful in providing ideas and gave a clear quote for the work from the start.  Himself and his team did a fantastic job, removed decking and laid a super new patio, laid a new lawn, redesigned the flower beds and put up a trellis on the back wall.  The end result was stunning and I was very pleased.  So pleased in fact Matt has been back since to put up new fencing for me and redesign my front garden area too. Matt is very knowledgable about what plants to put in and provided some super ideas.  He planted a Wisteria at the front of the house, been back to tend to it and it now looks amazing.  I would very much recommend Matt and his team for all your gardening needs.  He listens and takes real care and pride in delivering what you ask for, a pleasure to deal with - top bloke!

New Lawn

With Matt, perfection is the only acceptable standard. He arranged everything required to remove the old turf, lay a lot of new topsoil and lay the new lawn.

His enthusiasm is contagious and, on completion, gave me a lot of advice on the best ways to look after it.

I recommend him unreservedly and would certainly use his team again.

01/04/2018 		We asked Matt to re-lay our back garden decking and edging to the beds after it rotted last year. We were thrilled with the result as Matt picked up on all kinds of improvements he could make along the way. The work was completed efficiently and the decking both looks great, and is better quality than the previous materials so will last longer. Matt rethought the design of the edging and it is now much sturdier and works as really useful seating. He was extremely thoughtful about every aspect of the project, really considerate and very tidy in his work and clearing out of old mucky materials through the house. We plan to have Matt back to redesign the side return and front garden as soon as possible. We really like the way he works, his gentle, thoughtful style, and his professional integrity.

Pond construction and Irrigation system

Further to the irrigation system Matt laid in 2018, he has recently installed a pond for us, complete with stone edging and solar water pump. The work was done with his usual great care and enthusiasm, at a reasonable price. Thanks, Matt.

Matthew did an excellent job in our garden, constructing a raised box for growing vegetables, and laying a drip-feed irrigation system for the various planted areas? He worked out how to adapt the system so the plant pots could also be watered when we are on holiday. As other reviews have described, Matthew is a very personable chap, engaging in his with great care, thoughtfulness and courtesy. Highly recommended.

Brilliant job on a difficult garden

12/11/2017 		Matthew has transformed our garden from an overgrown, dark backyard to an incredibly chic, contemporary space flooded with light. It was a very big job and not a quick or cheap one but the end result is stunning - involving the removal of a treehouse, rotten decking, broken fencing, an ancient, out of control ivy and a trellis that grew only at the top. He replaced the fencing with a large wall, the decking area with two raised, walled flower beds that also had to accommodate and allow access to a ridiculously huge manhole, removed the treehouse and the ivy which took up most of our back wall and half of next door's too, replaced the trellis and replanted it with evergreen jasmine, installed new lighting, repainted the back door and fitted a lock, removed two trees and generally cut shrubs back and tidied up. He was unfailing pleasant, very creative and a pleasure to deal with and I would recommend him unhesitatingly.

Amazing transformation

He had great vision in terms of what was possible and I've been really surprised at how much more space there now is. He built some lovely benches and a table to maximise the area, along with a lighting scheme. He is very laid back but professional and takes a lot of pride in his work. I would definitely recommend him.

Fantastic garden

15/04/2017 		What Matthew has achieved  for me is absolutely unbelievable and really has changed the way I live.
I had a messy garden with a tiny  lawn which took a lot of hard work to keep it under control. Now it is beautifully paved with grey Indian Sandstone leaving me two small borders.It is absolutely amazing, I am astounded at the result especially as I do not have a rear entrance so two skips of rubble and soil had to come through my flat.  It was hard work I am thrilled with the result. He also transformed the front garden which looks very smart.

Matthew is hard working and absolutely meticulous. I left him the keys to my flat because i was going away on holiday so I can vouch for his complete honesty .

I can recommend Matthew without hesitation and would certainly use him again.

A masterclass in laying a new lawn!

13/08/2016 		Having spent 3 days trying to prepare our old lawn for re-turfing,i soon realised that the task in hand was beyond me!so i turned to Chiswick W4 for help…where we discovered a garden genius in Matthew.

He was totally professional from start to finish,as well as being very enthusiastic,and extremely informative about all aspects of our garden.

Within 2 days we had a perfectly manicured,newly turfed lawn….couldn't be happier.We will definitely use Matthew again for any future garden projects,and would have no reservations in recommending him to anyone with any garden issues.

I have had numerous different house and garden projects carried out over the years but Matthew is the only person who consistently delivers over and above expectations.

Matthew has just built a huge new patio for us and put in new planting plus garden lighting. He designed the whole job and finished on time and to budget. He also added numerous extra flourishes to the job which meant that the finished garden looks amazing. It is wonderful to find someone with skill and drive who clearly works extra hard to achieve a perfect result. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

He arrived promptly every morning, worked in a meticulous manner each day and always had a smile on his face. I was also highly impressed by his attention to detail and his willingness to go the extra mile just to make everything in the garden perfect. On top of all this, he was extremely professional throughout and a really nice guy! Finally, he kept to the timeframe he'd given me and everything was completed before our newborn arrived in July. Decking and Lighting Look Amazing

Fence replacement - such a great job

04/01/2014 		Matt was the very first to respond to a few speculative emails that we sent out looking for quotes to replace an 11' run of fencing (he emailed back within 15 minutes and came to assess the job the next day). Despite being so close to Xmas, Matt was still able to fit us in and worked through some particularly awful weather. The finished job is superb, he has a great attention to detail...and is cheerful and very easy to deal with. Highly recommended.

Garden, Shed and Repointed Patio

03/07/2013 		Matt has transformed our jungle-like garden – so overgrown it resembled a dark dank cave – into the most beautiful outdoor space. From our tentative ideas he came up with perfect suggestions that have made a garden that works both for us and for our two teenage boys. Astroturf, decking, stunning bespoke fencing, lighting, hammock hooks, a raised bed created from sleepers and – the final touch – beautiful planting in exactly the colour scheme I wanted. And – on top of being a true artist – he’s a really nice guy.

13/06/2013 		I chose Matthew because of all the great reviews on this website and I'm so happy I did.  My garden was a jungle and within a few weeks Matthew had transformed it into a beautiful and imaginative oasis.  He put in new decking, trellising, turf, got rid of several enormous overgrown bushes,  laid new turf, fixed the fence and reroofed the garden shed, put in lighting, planted and all on time and to budget. He really listened to me and has created a beautiful garden which will be easy to maintain but also looks stunning with very carefully chosen plants giving a normal back garden in London the feel of a mediterranean hotspot!  He's even come back to give the new lawn a trim after a few weeks.  He is a very creative and passionate landscape gardener and I would recommend him 100%.  Thank you very much for all your hard work Matthew.

21/09/2012 		$0Great work all round and a lovely bloke.$0$0$0$0We got Matt in to do our front garden, which was looking forlorn and bedraggled. Matt was clear about what he was willing to do and not do, which is refreshing. So he was quite clear he didn't want to do the specialised job of relaying the original Victorian tiled path we have, as it wasn't his expertise, but was happy to do the rest of what we wanted.$0$0$0$0So apart from a general trimming of hedges etc...., we asked Matt to cut a hole in our stone slabs to plant a cherry tree and flowers. Upon cutting the slabs, we discovered 3 ft of concrete laid under the whole front garden, which would be very expensive to jack hammer out. $0$0$0$0$0Time for plan B, Matt quickly improvised a plan around a lovely large pot for the cherry tree, and replanting the few existing beds we had. He quickly got on with it, and a few days later we have a lovely front garden again. Very happy with what he achieved.$0

There were no shortage of locals singing his praises, so we were confident that he could achieve what we had in mind. $0$0$0$0Matt was super friendly and helpful when he popped in to check out the space and organise  a quote.  So much so that he grabbed his tools and fixed our fence for us that had fallen overnight. $0$0$0$0$0We had our work scheduled in to be completed for a particular date of a garden party we were holding. 05/06/2012 		B-School reunion party at my place, six days to go - patio was just that, a patio.  I was on a mission - to find someone who could visit me that weekend and complete the work before the following Saturday - all this in prime gardening season - mid May.  Matthew seemed to think it was situation normal.  He was round at my place the following day, we agreed the spec, and I found myself handing over the keys to my house and a bunch of plant-spending money to a complete stranger.  But it transpired that he knew my daughter's friend who works in his local.  This seemed like a cast-iron reference.  I got back from a busy week at work away from home to find a transformation.  My concrete patch had become a riot of gorgeous smelling jasmine, lavender and herbs and I had trees, pots, flowers and mature plants already growing up the wall.  This man's not a gardener, he's a magician.  I'm serious.

Garden Miracle!

18/07/2011 		We chose Lifestyle Gardens based on all the great feedback that has been posted on this website.  With that, Matthew listened to our needs for a garden that wasn't. The current state of the garden was a wasteland of concrete and decking and not a sign of nature anywhere! Matthew came to our rescue with his co worker Andy and dug out all the concrete and turned our garden into an amazing oasis.  They are very efficient, smart and trust worthy workers. I would highly recommend Lifestyle Gardens to anyone as we are extremely pleased with the results. We now have a beautiful patio, lawn and beautiful trees in our garden that we never thought possible. Matthew and Andy have brought back nature to our new garden and we couldn't be happier!

04/05/2011 		Having read other posts on the W4 forum my wife and I had very high hopes for our garden work this spring, and we have not been disappointed.  Matt was extremely enthusiastic from our first meeting, taking on board our thoughts on what could be achieved; our garden was completely overgrown, and full of unusable areas, but we saw a lot of potential.  Matt adopted our vision but also offered suggestions and ideas in areas we hadn't thought about - which turned out to be spot on.  When it came to implementation Matt kept us informed on progress, issues encountered and sought confirmation on decisions before going ahead, which made us feel very comfortable and confident that things were being done in accordance to our wishes and agreed plan.  In total Matt worked on our garden for 4 and a half weeks, but it was early on in the work that my confidence in Matt grew as it was very clear that he is very good at what he does, as well as listening and offering advice when needed - our confidence in his ability and ideas developed very quickly as a result and as I say we are both very impressed and extremely happy with the results.  I would not hesitate for a moment to recommend Matt to friends and family.  Well done Matt!

Great new patio

13/12/2010 		Matthew laid a patio and put up some trellis for me.  I am very happy with both.  He gave a good value quote, stuck to it, and willingly corrected a misunderstanding without any additional cost.  He also brought some creative solutions make the result look even better.   I would definitely use him again.

Lovely new garden area

13/11/2010 		Matt recently totally renovated my small back garden and the surrounding paved area at the back and side of the flat.  He was good to work with because he listened to my ideas and helped refine them to a practical plan.  He demonstrated skills in the process of design and implementation of new paving, fencing, covered seating area and foliage and flower planting with spotlights.  He was organised, hard working and communicative about any problems plus has an enthusiastic and pleasant manner.  I am very confident in recommending his work.

Four years on and fabulous!

04/09/2010 		Four years ago we conceptualized our ideas for an oasis of calm for our Chiswick garden and Matthew made it happen. The garden looks as fresh and vibrant as when it was first put in. Landscape, lights, irrigation you name it Matthew can do it. He turned a neglected space into the envy of the street! Would totally recommend him for anything you want to achieve.

Fantastic garden

12/07/2010 		Matt was fantastic in updating our garden.  He did our front garden wonderfully a couple years ago and it looks better than we could have imagined. So we just asked him back to redo our back and again he did a great job.  It is like he added another room onto our house. We had a checklist that was daunting- we have two active boys that could destroy anything he built with their footballs- check. We are terrible about keeping plants going- check. We want it to look stunning- check.  Everything we threw at him, he figured out and made it work. On top of that he is a really nice guy- He and his crew don't get in your way, but they get it done.  We think he is great and recommend him wholeheartedly!

Created a little Oasis in the City!

17/03/2010 		Matt came to look at our garden and from the word go we knew that he knew what he was talking about. He was open to input and also added ideas from a wealth of knowledge to someone that wanted an easy to look after simple garden design. I was amazed how quickly he was able to turn an overgrown and messy garden into something completly different. Everything was sorted out by Matt from skip hire permits for the road to choices of lighting and planting advice. He also fitted a water feature to compliment the garden design which is the focal point of the garden. I would jump at the chance to recommend Matt as he is trustworthy and extremely skilled in his trade.

It's almost like having another room

16/03/2010 		I first met Matt when he was working on my neighbour's garden back in 2006 and due to it looking so good I asked him round to have an informal chat about mine. I had overgrown shrubs and a messy lawn. Everything was looking bedraggled and tired and I wanted a practical garden but with a quirky touch to it. Matt put in circular paving with pebbles, a veggie patch and an abundance of plants both of colour and of texture on budget and on time. I was abroad for the last part so it was a lovely surprise returning to an amazing garden lit up at night with a water feature. I have had many BBQ's out there in a space that now lends itself very well to outdoor socializing! As for the man himself we live opposite and regularly meet up in the Bollo to discuss things other than foliage which lasts into the night.

water into wine

not quite sure if Mathew can turn water into wine. But I will say this for sure. Our garden has made our home. I am not the most trusting of people when It comes to people working on my house after meeting many cowboys.  Mathew is the friendliest, most helpful and hardworking gardener I know and runs a smooth operation.  I started with a flat piece of mud with broken fences both sides. I now have an incredible piece of decking from the back door to the middle,  with 2 steps down,  a path,  2 brick edges,  plants that wont need love as i cannot give it and decking at the end,  With fantastic fences all around and its all lit up at night which our baby loves.
I wasnt here most of the time and even felt safe leaving Mathew my house keys to let himself in and out.  The best news is this.  I had our house valued 1 month before we had the garden done. It cost me 6k to have the work done and I have just had the SAME estate agent value again,  He says its now worth 15k more than before,  purely because of the garden,  he was blown away.
So do it,  use this guy and get your garden done.  Makes you happy and makes you money. ya beauty . thanks

Fantastic front garden

04/11/2009 		Matthew completely transformed our muddy weed strewn front garden into a spacious, clean, contemporary area. He replaced all the walls, railings and pathway before paving the front and planting various bits with some amazing plants and bushes. I've  lost count of the number of people who have stopped by to comment on how good it looks. Oh, and he's a really nice bloke too - highly recommended!

Beautiful front garden

08/10/2009 		Matthew has created a wonderful garden for us. He worked with us to design a whole new layout, incorporating all the practical bits we needed (bin storage, access for bikes, etc.) and came up with a bold and very effective planting scheme.

He was very easy to work with, came up with great ideas, set out a very clear plan of work and stuck to his quote. The garden has been in for 3 months now, all the plants are thriving and we love it.

He and his team has transformed what was a boring unused and unloved space into a beautiful extension of my house. The landscaping included laying a new patio, and a new lawn with brick edge which was all done with great care and attention to detail. But the biggest impact came with Matthews creative planting. 10/03/2009 		Matthew has sorted out the gardens in 2 houses that we have lived in. On both occasions he had many great ideas that enabled us to make so much more of the space that we had. He has a great knowledge of the best plants and other items to use and works very hard to get the job done in the time that was arranged. His quote is very detailed and itemised therefore allowing you to easily remove/add items to the job. I would definitely recommend him.

His choice of positioning the plants not only makes good gardening sense but also has an artistic touch. 03/03/2009 		Three years ago Lifestyle Landscape Gardening completely re-designed my garden. They removed awful unsightly concrete pathways and a dated and deteriorating concrete patio.  Unsuitable plants and trees were removed as well as gravel areas and an expiring lawn.

Matthew did a fantastic and sympathetic design and set about completely transforming both the back and front gardens.  He laid new paving, incorporating a large patio area, erected a big pergola and arbour, laid a curved sunken decking area with lights, water feature, etc.  He and his team worked hard through really bad weather and were reliable and tidy.  Now, three years later, the garden looks beautiful and I can only thank Matthew and his team for showing so much care and committment. He is a perfectionist and I can't recommend him highly enough.
