I have been dining and enjoying cocktails here for a long time.  It is a fantastic place for meeting friends and relaxing.  Try it and you won't be sorry...

Master of All Trades?

I do appreciate that with high rents and pressure from shareholder there is huge pressure on restaurants to 'sweat their assets'. This has led to a tendency for many larger restaurants to try and be a jack of all trades leading to a confusion of whether they are actually a bar, a restaurant or a cafe. Sam's is an exemplar to any one wishing to pull off this trick in the way they have maintained a consistent standard of excellence whether it is at brunch, for a bar snack, cocktails, children's meals or an evening meal.  Attention to detail is critical for any restaurant but in an enterprise this complex it is remarkable that nothing gets overlooked.

One minor gripe is the acoustics - the hard surfaces can make it difficult to hold a conversation particularly in the mezzanine area to the left of the restaurant as you enter from Barley Mow Passage.

The Perfect Neighbourhood Restaurant
17/12/2007 Having eaten there several times now there is not one instance of poor service or food to report. The menus are consistently interesting and imaginative and the food has always been delicious even when we have been frugal and gone for one of the special lunch offers. It also has a first rate bar and during the day it is open for coffee for which you pay little more than you would do a Starbucks but the coffee is better and the ambience on a different planet. Sam Harrison himself seems to be on the premises more often than not which probably explains the consistently high standards.
